In an example like this, it’s silly to think about the maximum amount of uncertainty, but in other situations (like when someone is 3-barrelling you with all hands they bet the flop with), you can use the idea more relevantly. Here it’s more important to talk about the reasonable maximum amount of uncertainty of a range – a reasonable, but wide, range usually around 50% of your opponent’s previously assigned range. In a situation like this, you could see your opponent shoving a wide range, but not all 40% of hands, maybe only the top 15% of hands (37.5% of the original 40%). This is an extra wide, but more reasonable range, to assign as a maximum, and you can use it to more accurately help determine whether or not you can make a call.
